Holaaa, it has been a long time I haven’t written on Medium again. Sorry. So here I am, hopefully, I am able and have time to write regularly.

Talks about deadlines, I think among of us like to do SKS (Sistem Kebut Semalam), right? I also ever did that :D. It’s kinda funny for me because when the deadline is getting closer, it can get my adrenaline pumping and push me to finish my work as soon as possible haha. Yap, but it’s not good behavior.

Let’s think, how about if we have a big project and we do that one day or even an hour before the deadline? Wow wow wow, don’t do thaaat! Cause I believe you can’t do it well or even the task has not completed.

So here, I want to share my tips to make an accurate deadline. These tips are inspired from the Career Readiness class by Generasi Gigih. Here we go!

  1. Understand the Project

This step is the fundamental one. We have to know all detail about the project. Please note about what is the goal of the project, when is the deadline, what media to share or collect our project, etc. Then we can do a little research so it can give us a better understanding of the project and make us easier to plan the schedule.

2. Break Down to the Small Tasks

Doing big tasks at one time is the worst thing I’ve ever done. It makes my project got not a good result. So dividing the big task into small tasks is the solution, then we can make a goal for each small task. Don’t forget to estimate the time that we need to complete each small task.

3. Make the SMART Schedule

Of course, when making a schedule, we must pay attention to our own abilities. Don’t make too many plans in one day. Write a few but surely we can complete it. To make it easier, I usually make a schedule by adapting the SMART method. Specific, write a specific work plan, such as what, when, or how to do it. Measurable, make targets of the task that can be measured clearly. Achievable, the plans we make must be completed in that time. Relevant, the plans that have been prepared must be relevant to the goals we have to achieve, which is the completion of the project. Time, give a deadline to the plans we have made. The plans that we make can refer to small tasks that we have made in the previous stage.

4. Set Reminder

Who has a bad habit that being forgetful? Haha, don’t worry, it’s a normal thing when humans forget easily. That’s why we can make reminders of the deadline on our smartphone. I often use Google Calendar to give me a gentle reminder when the deadline will come.

5. Do and Evaluate

How perfect planning that has been made is, but we didn’t execute it, I think it was a waste. For me, the best planning or schedule is when we can execute it well. So, let’s execute our schedule, do the task as best as we can. Don’t forget to evaluate it every day or every checkpoint we have made. If it runs out of our planning, please don’t be stressed, we can make another plan that is still relevant to the goal project and the deadline. Just do it and enjoy it!

So far, those tips work for me. Hopefully you too. If you have other tips, please share them in the comment section below. I will be happy to know tips from you.
